Design and Development

With 70 years in Mechanical Engineering, PA offers a complete engineering solution to ISO 9001 standards from Design through Development, Test, Trials and Manufacture of the finished product. The Company’s experienced PROJECT MANAGEMENT & POST DESIGN SERVICE engineering staff, supported by the most modern computer equipment, provide a comprehensive Mechanical and Aerospace engineering Project Management Service (PMS) and Post Design Service (PDS) service. The management of PMS and PDS is a well honed skill at PA.

Project Management Services

PA is well versed in the management and control of projects. From a project’s inception,
the following briefs may be prepared in response to project proposals:

• The Programme Plan
• The Quality Plan
• The Support Plan

Post Design Services

PDS is the final phase of an equipment’s development process. For aircraft bombs, for example, PA is the Co-ordinating Design Authority (CDA) and has CDA and PDS responsibilities for the 540 lb and 1000 lb All-Up Rounds.

The following work areas address the major fields of weapon PDS activity:

• Appointment as Design Authority (DA). The DA is required to appoint an Armament Safety Officer.
• Custody of Design Data. Custodianship covers design records and their configuration control, content of technical publications, technical information and the drawing set with the item list, amendment list and Master Reference Index (MRI). It also includes the co-ordination of the overall effect of design changes within subsidiary components of the equipment.
• Design Support. This covers the setting-up and administration of Local Technical Committees and PDS meetings when required by the Project Officer.
• Fault and Technical Investigations. These are carried out as directed by the Project Officer. Investigations may result in the drafting of Technical Instructions that may be in the form of Modification Leaflets and/or amendments to the equipments’ Technical Publication.
• Reference Equipment. PA holds reference equipment that allows and ensures practical investigations and trial installations in the event of modifications and technical queries.
