Environmental Policy Statement
1. Portsmouth Aviation Limited (PA) is a mechanical and aeronautical engineering
Company that offers a wide range of services to a variety of customers. We have
strong links with United Kingdom Ministry of Defence, and in recent years PA has
extended its customer base into other industrial sectors. The scope of the Environmental
Management System includes design, development, trials management, project management,
manufacture, survey and repair of airborne/aircraft equipment, aircraft ground support
and handling equipment, NBC filters and filtration systems, practice bombs, provision
of post design services in support of MoD contracts, and metal finishing, destructive
and non-destructive testing and measurement on a sub-contract basis. A number of
company activities are currently regulated under Integrated Pollution Control (IPC)
and Local Authority Pollution Control (LAPC) by the Environment Agency and Environmental
Health, respectively. Trade effluent is also subject to a discharge consent and
is monitored and regulated by the sewage company.
2. PA believes that all aspects of its own operation should be carried out in such
a way as to have a minimum adverse affect on the environment, and has therefore
adopted the following environmental policy, which provides the framework for setting
and reviewing its objectives and targets:
2.1 PA will assess all areas of its activities, products and services with respect
to its impact on the environment, and incorporate those practicable procedures and
controls necessary in its commitment to prevent environmental damage and pollution.
2.2 PA is committed to complying with all relevant legislation, and those other
environmental requirements to which it may from time to time subscribe.
2.3 PA will set and review annual objectives and targets in its commitment to continual
environmental performance
3. The key issues are:
3.1 To minimise and control the release of environmentally damaging substances to
the surrounding area.
3.2 To monitor energy and water consumption and use this information to improve
resource efficiency.
3.3 To monitor waste production and use this information to reduce the waste produced
and to promote recycling and reuse of materials.
4. The Company will ensure that all staff are kept aware of this policy, and their
individual responsibilities within it, by an appropriate programme of training and
awareness enhancement.
5. This policy will be displayed around the site and will be available to the general
public on the Company website at http://www.portav.co.uk.
6. In order to achieve these objectives it is the policy of PA to establish and
maintain an effective quality management system based on the requirements of BS
EN ISO 9000, and an effective environmental system based on the requirements of
BS EN ISO 14001.
