NBC Protection - Naval No 6/7 AFU

The freestanding Number 6 Air Filtration Unit is completely self-contained and provides an easily installed NBC capability by connection to the existing air ventilation system and electrical supply.

This unit is fitted in the majority of the Royal Navy’s minor war vessels and a similar unit, the Number 7, constructed of low magnetic materials, is fitted to mine countermeasure vessels.

- The unit has a maximum airflow rate of 340 m3/hr.

- Each Number 6 or 7 AFU consists of three filters:

• A Pre-filter, which removes coarse particulate matter down to 5 microns, including nuclear fallout.
• A HEPA Filter, which removes fine particulate matter down to 0.3 microns, including bacteria.
• A Gas Filter, which removes chemical and radiac warfare agents in the form of gases or vapours by adsorption to the activated charcoal filling.
